Hoffman Wobbles Knocks Bruen From Top Of Leader Board
The top three from day one of Carrick Golf Clubs US Masters Challenge were replaced on the podium , by Mike Walsh -8, Turlough Bruen -5 & Jimmy Egan -4, ironically none of the three had the ill fated DJ on their selection. Walsh’s picks of Rory +1, Mickelson level, Spieth level, Rose -1, Fowler -4 & Sergio -4, good team & with Rory having possibly had his bad round it looks good for the Multyfarnaham man.
Zach Johnson Replaces Dustin in Carrick Golf Club Master Challenge
Dustin Johnson’s fall on Wednesday affected 252 entrants in Carrick Golf Club US Master’s Challenge, as he didn’t start the tournament everybody who had DJ on their team were allocated the next player down on the sheet, his namesake and a former Master Champion Zach Johnson is that player and after a first round of +5 he has some work to do to fill DJ’s expectation’s. Run away leader of the tournament proper Charlie Hoffman superb round of 7 under leaves him 4 ahead of his nearest challenger and Liam Bruen has the same margin over his nearest challenger in the Masters Challenge, he sits on top of the pile on -6 courtesy of his selection of Leishman +1, Kjeldsen level, Hoffman -7, Fowler +1, Chappell -1 and Casey level. only two others broke par in the challenge, but of course its only Thursday a lot of golf to be played.
The Spring League finally concluded on Sunday last with clubhouse leaders throughout the competition taking top spot on 280, four ahead of their closest challengers who tracked them all the way. Tommy Flynn RIP
It was with great sadness we learned of Tommy’s death on Sun 12 March following an accident on his farm. Tommy was a very active Member of the club, never missing a weekend competition regardless of weather and was always on hand to make up a fourball or to fill a team for a classic, he will be sorely missed. To Anna his wife, his twin daughters Aoife & Caoimhe and his extended family, we extend our heartfelt sympathy. Ar dheis De go raibh Anam.

Compare for This is Your Life Liam Bruen (aka Eamonn Andrews . . . not) presents a still shocked Ann Campbell with her This is Your Life Red Book, Nicholas her husband to right looks relieved to have got through the day without “spilling the beans”. On left Ann’s family and on screen behind her grandchildren.
This is Your Life on Sat last March 4 was a resounding success, with the pinnacle of the night being the fact that Ann Campbell was completely shocked to be chosen as the inaugural candidate for this our first running of This is Your Life.
The large turnout of Members & friends were entertained by well put together history of Ann’s life from family photographs, cine film of her wedding, video clips from grandchildren, audio from Tess Bredin & Sheila Heeran from New York and in the room on the night family & golfing friends from around the country and from Portugal all conducted superbly by Liam Bruen (aka Eamonn Andrews)
well done Liam and well done Ann’s family from keeping it a secret from her not an easy job, particularly well done Phoebe who compiled all family history.
The club would also like to thank our sponsors on the night, Cox’s Pharmacy, Di Vinos, Padraig Glancy Super Valu Carrick, The Bunker Bar @ Carrick Golf Club, Pat Conlon Confectionary, Shane Kelly Super Valu Boyle, Liam Bruen. Thank you also to all the Members & friends who bought tickets and helped to make it a memorable night.
