The Late Breege Kenney.
Carrick on Shannon Golf Club have in recent weeks lost a highly respected past member, Lady captain, keen competitor, strong club and Golf advocate with the death of our dear friend Breege Kenney. Breege and her husband Leo and family moved to Drumshanbo in the ‘80’s from Castlerea. Breege was at that stage an avid Golfer. Castlerea’s loss was Drumshanbo & Carrick Golf Clubs gain. Breege competed and represented our Club at local and regional levels as well as taking on the arduous task of Lady Captain for two years, but I believe her legacy in the club will be as a great promotor of Ladies Golf. Nowadays we have the very successful Ladies golf program “Get into Golf”, but in the past Ladies like Breege took it upon themselves to encourage young and the not so young ladies to take up the game. I am not able to count the number of people that said “Oh yeah and she even brough me out for a few lessons”. I believe Breege was actually trying to share the love, Joy and friendships that she herself experienced through the game of Golf. Farewell to a dear friend, mentor, fellow golfer and an absolute Lady on and off the golf course. Solas mhic De ar a h-anam dilis.
