We had our overnight away outing to Westport and Castlebar on Monday 27th and Tuesday 28th September, staying in ‘The Helm’, Westport on Monday night. The food, drink, service and atmosphere in ‘The Helm’ was absolutely excellent and everybody enjoyed the night immensely. We played Westport on Monday and the weather was pretty bad with squally showers and the course was quite wet. The four man scramble competition, two scores to count, was won by the team of Reggie Carroll, Robbie Donaldson, Dermot Monaghan and John Burke KV. We played Castlebar on Tuesday and the weather was much better although the course was also quite wet. Our regular Thursday competition was at home on Thursday, 30th September where the winner was Albert Hogg with 37 points. Cat. 1 winner was Michael Keville with 34 points and Michael also won the Seniors Matchplay on the day when he beat Sean Gilmartin in the final. Cat. 2 – Leo Kavanagh (35 points); Cat. 3 – Owen Caulfield (36 points). Front 9 – Sean Gilmartin (18 points); Back 9 – Gerry Emmett (20 points). Congratulations to Reggie Carroll who took the prestigious title of ‘Golfer of the Year’, by the very slimmest of margins of 1 point over the 10 best cards from Sean Martin. Important Club Notice – Kevin Ward is offering free buggy handling lessons for the next while.
