It was a bitterly cold day with a strong North Easterly raking the course with periodic hailstones. Despite the extremely tough conditions, which caused three of the top golfers to abandon after 14 holes, the man from Kilmore, PJ Sharkey, took first prize with a great score of 40 points. Narrowly beaten into second place was Paddy Duffy with 39 points and Leo Kavanagh was third with 36 points. The Captain in Waiting from Cootehall, Albert Hogg, took the first nine with 19 points and Seamus Sweeney the second nine with 21 points. Michael Comerton looked after the money and our charismatic Captain Robbie Donaldson with a succinct and suitably short speech presented the prizes. Following the presentation there was a lively discussion in anticipation of next season’s match between Cork and Leitrim in Division 3 of the National Football League and there was general agreement that Leitrim should have no difficulty in disposing of Cork.
