Carrick Hosts Connacht u16 Boys Open June 22
Carrick-o-Shannon Golf Club is delighted to be hosting the Connacht U16 Boys Open on Monday June 22.
A stunning field of Irish Junior golfing talent shall set out in the season opening U16 Boys Provincial Championship at Carrick-on-Shannon Golf Club on Monday June 22.
Rosslare starlet, John Brady, boasting a handicap of 0.2 leads the entrants who made the 105 man field cut which fell at 7.7 and will most certainly be favourite. He will no doubt face a strong challenge from former winner, Mark Power (Kilkenny) who captured the event in its previous format as an U15 Championship in Claremorris in 2013.
Other challenges are expected from Cameron Raymond (Newlands), Jack Doherty (Carton House), Ryan Thompson (Greenacres) and Reece Black (Hilton Templepatrick) whilst Connacht shall be hoping for a home win from Paddy Culhane (Galway) who recently took the Faldo Series National U16 Crown, in a playoff, at Lough Erne. Connacht shall also be hoping for good performances from Andrew Hickey (Ballyhaunis) and Harry Gillivan (Westport) to name but two who have shown great form on the local scene this season.
For Host Club Carrick-on-Shannon in the words of Club manager, Chris Lowe “It’s a great opportunity for the Club to show off how much it has improved and matured since the last time it hosted the event over a decade ago when it was one by current Irish International, Paul Dunne”.
